As a Public Relations and Advertising student at Chapman University, I am required to take a class called Internet Communications.  One of our assignments is to create a blog addressing a topic that we feel would make the world a little bit better.  One thing I feel would make the world a little bit better is if we found the cure for autism.

My mother has worked in special education under the Long Beach Unified School District for over 35 years.  Over the years, she has worked closely with children who have suffered from learning and social disabilities, but most frequently she finds herself teaching children with autism.  I know that my mother has bonded very closely with many different children with autism and she has repeatedly told me about an organization called Autism Speaks, whose purpose is to bring awareness about autism to the public and raise funding to find the cure.

As the daughter of someone who works with autistic children every day, I see the amazing things that children with autism are capable of, and should their autism be cured, I believe that there would be so much more that they are able to achieve in life.  If autism were cured this amazing children would have a chance to live out their lives completely normally and independently.  With this, I am calling out to The Ellen DeGeneres show, asking that they feature Autism Speaks on their show, urging viewers to go online and make a donation to the organization, moving us one step closer to finding a cure for autism.

Thank you for taking the time to read my blog!

  1. I would suggest cutting the first two sentences or move them somewhere else. I think it would be stronger for readers outside the class to open with “One thing I feel would make the world a little bit better is if we found the cure for autism.”

    Just a thought.

Your blog is so important, and we need to find a cure for Autism. I grew up with my aunt’s son that has autism, and he is such a wonderful person. I really hope your blog reaches Ellen’s show.
